According to the Daily Press, Norfolk is likely to lose a major aircraft carrier - and thousands of jobs as a result. A recent Defense Department report indicates that the carrier will be moved to a new, permanent base in Mayport, Florida. The reports states that the move is necessary to mitigage the impact of a terrorist attack, accident or natural disaster.  The potential job losses are substantial and would be felt throughout the region.
